  • Alternator not charging....older gm
    L luvmy92gmc

I have an older gm car with a 63 amp alternator with just the positive negative and the two regulator leads.....the alternator will not charge the battery in the car, it's an old chevelle that originally had a generator with an external regulator but the whole wiring harness looks like a total hackjob....I just need to find a quick and easy way to make it charge so I can drive it and not have to worry about it not starting back up, plus I need lights at night, any suggestions?

it's not hard i just hate doing it.... i suppose i contradicted myself a little bit when i said clutches are never really that hard but trannys are always a bitch.... so i can see why you'd be a little confused.... but usually when i think tranny im thinking automatic...and well i've never liked dealing with those much at all, manuals are lighter, smaller much easier to work with....it still only took me about 3 hours to replace the tranny in my civic and it wasn't hard at all.....so a manual being smaller and lighter once you resurface the flywheel put the clutch on the flywheel and put the tranny in....shouldn't really take that long, it's not hard at all.....but i still hate doing it with all that asbestos crap and the fact my old tranny had a huge hole in it so i was covered in atf all while putting the new used one in

In GENERAL, I have to agree. I've been tailgated and almost run off the road more times BY FAR by big trucks than by cars. Just the other day I was driving down 17th ave going about 30 (in a 25) being tailed by a truck that was literally two feet from my bumper. Then the fucker had the nerve to start honking at me, I assume to make me go faster. The sad part is, thats nowhere near the first time something like that has happened.

I've had less of a problem with stupid high school kids with "super fast" civics. Granted I'm sure it's just the same type of deal as with the import crowd - a few ruin the image of the many - but still. It pisses me off when people that drive huge gas guzzlers that get 3mpg think they own the road.

I usually get tailgated like that in my civic and if they honk I slow down to about 20 mph just to really piss them off.....but to tell you the truth I do plan to lift my truck and put big tires on it....and suprisingly enough it was getting roughly 16 mph in town with my programming on there and a 400hp/450ft.lb. torque motor. I'd hate to be stereotyped as a hick though, but I suppose it's better than the assholes with the diesels that just have to get their faggot ass pipe right next to my window when I have it rolled down......now that's gayer than a bag of dicks and really gets me wishing I had a shotgun in the back seat.

hahaha how do those fuckers get jobs anyways? i could do that simple shit in the 3rd grade....but it is nice having a laptop with a program so you can read your own codes... but I guess in Jamestown it's more a country community so most of the people that work at parts stores know what they're talking about and they're actually helpful....I pretty much live at our napa store

i'm not much of a honda person myself.... but isn't dual point just honda's way of saying throttle body injection? which could easily be mistaken for an "electronic carb" cuz that's pretty much what it is being it replaces everything except the throttle blade and the body and just puts an injector right on top in the middle of the bore?

i think you have to look at what the cars were made for? I love Chevelle's and Camaro's......i mean...think back 37 years ago 450hp and 500ft./lbs. of torque from the factory with the LS6 in the Chevelle? that car was MADE to go fast, hell low 13's from the factory is not bad almost 4 decades ago then you have the honda, nissan, whatever I own a chevelle and a honda, both are fun to drive, but anyways, the honda likes to scoot around and get great gas mileage while still being fun to drive....i don't particularly feel safe driving it, but it's definitely got it's advantages, I feel for drag racing any muscle car with some actual muscle and not a V6 imitation is the way to go, 1) raw power and some small block chevy's are a dime a dozen 2) rwd platform, where does all the weight go under acceration? right under those back tires for even more traction 3) that sweet idle of a lopey cam and then there's always 4)....they'll always get women too 🙂 but then the honda's you can pretty much do the same thing with but it does get a lot harder to make them quick once you start hitting 12's where as any nova with a big block will pretty much do 10's out of the box...and as for road courses, the honda is more agile unless it's matched with a corvette/porsche..etc. but anyways I drive my hatch for gas mileage and my Chevelle because old body over frame cars with a lot of power are such a blast!!!......so there's my take on it

haha I know the kid who used to own that car, his name is Rob....he was actually not a fag about driving it he just liked the way it looked.....and he would've done an evo swap had he kept it....but last I knew it never had a cam...but I must say when I worked at the truckstop back in Jamestown I mounted the tires on those rims :D.....but the guy that owns it now does sound like a total dousche....never go to Jamestown btw there's plenty of them

Why would it being converted to manual cause the clutch to slip?? And clutches really aren't that cheap, and they are kind of a pain in the ass to install with the motor in the car.

converting a car would have nothing to do with the clutch slippage but you obviously need a clutch pedal for a manual vehicle....and I was replying to the guy that said the pedal might need adjusting because whoever put in the pedal assembly might not have adjusted it.....and i also have a 2 post lift in my garage so it's never really been that hard to do clutches in anything

it's probably clutch slippage unless the car was an automatic to start with... usually the pedal play doesn't get tampered with much, clutches are cheap anyways

i think those fuel pumps are right underneath the rear seat, you can always hook it up to a 12v power source to see if its working, or you might have accidentally taken out the wiring for it like a ground or something it needs to function, if thats the case the sending unit prolly isn't going to work either and the gauge in your cluster will be off, if it does end up being that you can always just run a few wires from ignition and battery back to your pump

hey there, name's derek... don't really know many people on this site, I have a 1970 Chevelle (needs restoring), a 1992 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton (body off the frame in my garage for paint), and a 1992 Honda Civic DX Hatch (not bad but sweet mpg)...that's about it, I'm currently looking for a manual swap for my civic for a good price, let me know if there's any takers, I'll need flywheel, pedals, linkage, halfshafts, computer and the transmisison for a D series. Other than that I live in Jamestown and I'm attending college in Wahpeton for Auto Collision....also if anyone knows where I could find a good four wheel drive truck preferrably 73-85 for around 500$ please let me know, but hey thanks for looking at this and all that good stuff....
