  • Anyone have a recommendation for motorcycle shop in Fargo?
    Z ZX10RArcher

Buy a service manual and do it yourself. Saves time and money. Just being honest. I do all my own maintenance just because I don't trust any mechanic anymore after some of the horror stories I've gone through. About the only thing I can't do on a bike is replace a tire and that's only because I don't have the equipment to do it. I could use blocks and a 2x4 but nah. I'll just take the wheels in and drop them off and pick them up later. Pre-purchase inspections are easy. Google can help on that or maybe one of your friends who knows motorcycles? I'd even possibly help out depending on the time/date.

As far as a 250 getting boring? Yeah, if you ride it in a straight line all the time. But I have as much fun on a properly setup 250 in the lakes backwoods on 113 or at BIR. Just as much, if not more fun as I have on my ZX10 in the same places. Ultimately up to you. The 250 will peter out at around 80 MPH so if you're planning on taking it on the interstate bad choice especially if you're bigger. Go for the new Ninja 300 it will get up to 120 now. Or for a 600 as stated earlier. It all depends on how big you are. The SV650 is one of my all time favorite bikes as I used to have a race bike that was converted from an 01. That thing was a riot. Handled like a dream and was a terror on the track although not very competitive on the straights it could easily overtake a lot of the bigger bikes in the curves. On the street it was enough to commute and have fun in town. The Ninja 650R is a pretty good bike too. Has the sportbike look but a bit more relaxed riding ergos. It too is a 650 twin and is quite fun to ride (I looked at getting one years ago).

But, if you're set on a 250R, go 08+ since they redid the suspension design for the better on them. If you look at all the bikes in the N250 class at BIR they are all 08+. If you can, go for the Ninja 300 but if you're a bigger guy, as I am, look at something with a bit more power like the SV650, 650R. They aren't classified as sport bikes so insurance will be cheaper and they can be found cheap (especially the SV). The 636 Ninja (old ones or the new ones) is about the perfect street bike. More than enough power and it handles awesome. I had an 05 and have been looking to purchase another to make it a track bike. Only problem is with the 636s squids tend to stunt the shit out of them and beat them to hell so they usually require some work.

If you're just doing it for the sound... degut your current exhaust pipe (don't know what bike you have) or get a simple slip on. No use in spending the $1200+ for a full system if you're not going to use the full benefits of a full system.

What are the hours like? Reason I ask is I work 5 nights a week downtown bartending and bouncing as well, but I am always interested in making my wallet a little bit fatter.

I have been doing stereo installations for 15+ years and recently did my first car alarm/auto start on my own truck. I also have 10 years of electronic component troubleshooting/repair as well as all sorts of certifications I got for soldering and electronics work while I was in the service.

If the hours fit into my schedule, I'd be interested.

If you ride a bike and want to meet up with other peeps who do, this is the place to do it. A few of my clubs out in AZ used Meetup.com and it worked great.

So please, feel free to share the link on Facebook and Twitter and lets get the word out there!

Nope, not an SV. Either a TLR or TLS. Look at the headlight, it's one piece. When I first looked at it, it looked like two lenses. But it's just a shadow, there is indeed just the one lamp.

I was going to head over there to check it out on my bike, but didn't make it over there. But yeah, sounds like he was booking from what you described and what I can pull up in Google Maps. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=1505+34th+Ave.+S.,+Fargo&ll=46.828968,-96.804221&spn=82.38156,203.203125&hnear=1505+34th+Ave+S,+Fargo,+North+Dakota+58104&gl=us&t=v&z=3&layer=c&panoid=7LZMjpOyG39CBpru63vpVg&cbll=46.828968,-96.804221&cbp=13,-47.14380921996227,,0,6.47442308497854

    Sidenote, I love the journalism and police intelligence here;
    The story states...

Berlin, who said the man was not wearing a helmet,
    Then later states...
Police could not confirm if the 26-year-old was wearing a helmet.
Why couldn't they confirm? If there was no helmet at the scene or on the guys head, and there was a witness stating he didn't have a helmet on... chances are he didn't have a helmet on. :icon_scratch:

*FARGO – FARGO – A 26-year-old Fargo man died this afternoon after crashing his motorcycle at 1505 34th Ave. S., Fargo police Sgt. Ryan Dorrheim said.

Authorities received reports about 1:30 p.m. that a man had lost control of his motorcycle and veered left while eastbound on the residential street, striking a light pole.

The man was unresponsive when police arrived. Dorrheim said he did not know if the man died at the scene or on the way to the hospital.

Police have not determined the cause of the accident, Dorrheim said.

Jeremiah Berlin, an eyewitness to the accident, said he saw the victim driving by himself down the street at a high rate of speed before he lost control, veered to the left and jumped the curb.

Berlin, who said the man was not wearing a helmet, said the motorcycle fishtailed and he struck the pole headfirst.

Berlin said his son was only feet away at the time of the accident.

“I tried to get my kids inside and call 911 as fast as I could,” Berlin said.

Initial reports from the dispatch center stated a witness performed CPR on the victim, Dorrheim said.

Police could not confirm if the 26-year-old was wearing a helmet. Dorrheim, who is part of the accident reconstruction team, said they also cannot confirm how fast the Fargo man was traveling until further investigation.

The victim’s name will be released when his next of kin are notified, Dorrheim said.*

Sucks to lose a fellow rider, but if you're acting like a squid and not wearing ATGATT, if you do wreck you deserve whatever comes to you. My guess is he was probably wearing an Aeropostatle shirt, some plaid board shorts, flip flops, rip off mall shop Oakleys and a backwards hat and tried to show off. Call me what you want, mean, cynical, an asshole... but if you're flying down city streets, not wearing gear and their are kids around you deserve a Darwin Award.

Side note, looks like a 1st Gen SV650, anyone know if he was from the boards?

  • Moved back from Arizona... Again... First time poster here...
    Z ZX10RArcher

    Greetings-

Just moved back to the area (a month ago) for the second time. Last time was a few years ago after I got out of the service. Decided to move back to AZ to get away from the MN winters so I spent the last two years out there. To give some background on me, I grew up riding dirt bikes periodically (didn't have one of my own, so I had to ride my friends KX250 when he'd go out) and then moved out to Arizona when I got stationed there. I got into import tuning and bought, modded and tuned up a 2000 Celica GT-S that was a terror on the Auto-X tracks. After that got boring, I took the plunge into sportbikes and started riding with a few clubs out in Arizona and started doing trackdays in ~2007. I've had several bikes over the years; 95 ZX6R, 05 ZX6R, 98 VFR, 01 SV650S (track), 02 ZX9R, 08 ZX10R and now a 11 ZX10R ABS.

Now I am back in the area and looking for people in the Fargo-Moorhead area (as well as the Lakes area) to ride with on the weekends and do some trackdays, maybe even CRA next season. Since I didn't ride too much back up here, I'd like to see the roads people ride on. I am used to the twisties in Arizona and rode in the canyons quite often (at least once a week). So I prefer twisties like back in AZ, but I know the geography probably doesn't allow for too many. I just like to go on casual, yet challenging rides and save all the crazy antics for track days. I'd also like to meet friends to get together and watch AMA/WSBK/GP on TV and do some grilling, go out on the town for a few drinks, grill on the weekend or ice fish/snowmobile/etc in the winter. I have a lot of hobbies, mostly which follow sports (hockey, football, motorcycle racing), working out, hobby electronics, technology, sports and photography.

Currently, I work weekends as a bouncer in Fargo and am going back to school to finish up my Electronic Engineering and Computer Science degrees (2 years left on both degrees). I am originally from Detroit Lakes, but am staying in Pelican Rapids at my girlfriend's dad's house until we finalize on our place in Fargo around the first of August.

    So onto my hooptie...
These are some old pictures... at least a few months ago. Just a sampling, I have some newer, higher quality ones if anyone wants to see them...

    Anyways, bike has the following mods;
    Evan Steel Performance suspension setup
Revalved (stiffer) stock Ohlins front dampner
Euro Kawi converted tail (turn signals integrated into tail instead of the US spec Kawi stalks)
    Modified Yoshi fender eliminator
    Rifleman 1/5th turn throttle insert
    Red/Black folding/extendable levers
    Black Zero Gravity windshield
    Black Zero Gravity windshield bolts
High and low beam 6000K HID conversion
    Driven bar ends
OES frame and fork sliders and rear spools
    Driven engine block offs
    Pair valve removed
    Graves Mirror block offs
    M4 GP exhaust
    Pipercross race filter
    Tuned PowerCommander V
    Guhl flashed ECU
    Royal Purple fluids
    Kawi rear cowl
    Sato Racing hooks
And I am sure I am forgetting stuff...
Dynoed at roughly 185HP/79TQ on 91 Octane with a conservative tune
    legacy image

    Things I have but not installed include (mainly track day stuff);
    Attack Performance race plastics
    Attack Performance rear link
    Woodcraft Rear sets
HD Hero 2 /w battery bacpac and wifi bacpac/remote with a ton of accessories

    Things I need/want to do
Upgrade the rear shock to a TTX unit and install the Attack Performance rear link and redo suspension settings
Purchase a Hotbodies rear tire hugger
Drop one tooth on the front sprocket (bring the gearing inline with the S1000RR)
Switch out the factory Kawi titanium header and M4 GP for a full Ti Graves system
    Marchesni wheels
    Countless other things...

Anyways, I hope to see some of you guys out on the road, and if you have a weekend ride going, let me know and I will try to make it! Thanks!
