i started researching the compression differences on the turbo vs non-turbo and i says the non-turbo 1g has 9.2:1 and the turbo has 7.8:1. the turbo 2g has 8.5:1. does anyone know if there is anything wrong with the 1g non-turbo block. i know if you run to much compression with a turbo it with knock but besides that do the blocks have many differences? can i swap turbo parts on a non-turbo 4g63? head bolts/manifold bolts and so on? If the blocks are just as strong on the 1g non-turbo 4g63 i would rather go with that block. any arguments? also i noticed the bore and stock are slightly different on the 1g engines( esi and tsi) but both have the same displacement.

The blocks themselves are identical other then oil squirters.

^^^^are you talking about the 1g and 2g?? i was wondering on the 1g esi and the 1g tsi. because the compression ratios and bore/stoke are differant but i should be the same block right? I just wanted to make sure because of the minor bore differences. thanks

I was referring to the 1G turbo and NA 4G63 block. The 1G base model was a SOHC and used a different block, i believe that was the DL model.

yes i want the whole bottom end of a non-turbo for a turbo car just for the fact of a little higher compression.

                                umm....

                                (1) NT pistons cant handle more than 8-10psi due to the ring lands being so high on the piston. If you want a higher compression turbo motor....put in higher compression TURBO pistons.

                                (2) A 7bolt bottom end cannot fit in a 6-bolt block. That whole point of going to a 6-bolt is to get away from the 7-bolt bottom end.
