Why do people do this?

Just saying it sounds obnoxious....... would be much better with a turbo :icon_salut:Nahh why would i wanna take the easy way out, i love the challenge with the roots blower, and how it turns heads when it whines, im not too fond of your lawn mower sounding rotary motors either but its what you chose to mod right?
I live like 5 hours away from fargo, so it makes no sense to make an introduction since i'll never meet any of you guys, since i race at the track in iowa. So... hi :icon_geek:

Owning and modding 2 GTPs thus far, I have a lot to be thankful for, my knowledge of motors and concepts have greatly improved, I have had a ton of fun with friends while building my second GTP, made some great friends cruising around in it, racing it, and have turned a lot of heads on the street with some great kills and show of preformance! For what it is, a 3700lb car, running 13.1 on street tires, no I/C, maxed out stock injectors, and burned torque converter, I think it is somewhat impressive. Even tho I personally think I have spent way too much for the gains, it's about the passion of cars, the hobby, and having plain FUN!
It's a great daily driver, family car, that can hang with the big dogs and even beat them, ask the guy in town with a 2005 Vette that I raced twice with a load of lumber in the car. It was nice seeing the yellow in the rear view! To be able to somewhat hang with a 97 Supra and 72 Detomaso Pantera GT up to 140mph is impressive I think.
Who cares what people choose to mod or join the car hobby with, it's about what they like, and a way to show off who they are. You wear Vans, I wear Doc Martins, you mod a Honda, I mod a Pontiac. It really doesn't matter as long as you have fun!

I'm not getting into the bashing here, I just wanted to add some Grand Prix/w-body FACTS based on the modding I've done over the past 6 years.
Most people don't mod base GP's, Some do GT's and most start with the SC'd GTP (for obvious reasons) I choose the GP because I like the styling and I have a family of 4.
I ran 14.6 stock in my GTP (slowest was a 14.8)
I ran 14.8 with 75 shot NOS in my GT
I have not had the GXP to the track but 13.7 passes have been repeated on stock setups.
I ran 13.96 for under $500 in my GTP w/stock tune.
I would put the GXP's stock handling up against any other stock setup in it's class. If you ever get a chance to drive a GXP, do it.Money is a big factor in building a w-body car. The trans is weak in stock form, but all parts needed to make it sub 10's capable are available to the public.
My GTP currently dynoed 493whp on a 100,000mi stock 3800 block. The current setup is IC'd T67 Turbo @18psi.

What cars are in the same class as a GXP? Implala/buicks/300c/chargers? I used to have a modded 95GP that was going to get a L67 swap. Even if I did some basic suspension mods, it would handle nowhere near what my stock S13 240sx with 120k on stuck suspension did.
I have a feeling there is a link to this thread on club GXP. I would get a gtp as a DD, but jeeps own pontiacs in the winter, and i would spend to much $$$ on parts.

'95 was 2 generations ago, soon to be 3 gens with the new G8. I guess adding "class" was a bad idea when talking about the handling of the GXP. There is room for improvement on anything, but in stock form, the handling of the GXP will greatly outperform the needs of 99.9% of the people who will ever drive one. I wouldn't by a GP for heavy snow areas, just like I wouldn't buy a Jeep for heavy towing. Everything has a purpose, no vehicle is going to be the best at everything. -

My jeep tows just fine. I have driven a number of newer grand prix, and a G6 GTP which was an amazing car after I realized the owner wasn't a good driver and drove it myself.
Let me bring my 5th wheel by then, we'll giver a try.Everything has a purpose, there is no one vehicle does everything.

This is kind of a lame thread to link to another.....seriously, there are way better ones out there.
And i will throw this out there, I would take a S/C pontiac as a DD, cuz they are roomy, comfortable, and decently fun. But not as a main modified car....still too boring for that, auto and grandma status.

I know everything has a purpose. But, sometimes you can not have something that will work for every situation. Maybe I am not as rich as you to have a big Diesel truck(proper thing for towing), a 5th wheel, 3 grand prixs, and a vehicle for every other possilble thing you could want.
Yay! I am an idiot on clubGP! there are plenty of people that saw the civic run 14.5.
Haha, I saw this post a while ago. Its makes me sad that we have these retards in ND, I guess we will show them whats up this summer at the 1/4 mile in Fargo. A couple cammed GTPs and a turbo one maybe, not many hondas there will beat us.
i would becareful, i noticed that they have a 2 gsr's and one of them is running 10.8 in the 1/4. also alot of boosted vtecs, i saw multiple dsms and one was an evo with a GT30R. lastly i heard that there is a prob maybe, well its in the 9s what ever it is.

Oh noes.....boosted Vtec's??

SKIP! you gonna come back to IDR this year, or am i gonna have to meet up with you in brainerd? you ever get that thing ironed out anyway?
GaryI may get up there, otherwise for sure BIR! But not with the GTP, I'll be bringing the TT. Last year I burned the torque converter up, put in a 2500 stall, trans cooler, yanked the A/C, 65# injectors, a 2.9pulley, and found out that I must have burned a lot more than the TC, so there she sits in the garage. I am actually looking at unloading the GTP since I have lost my interest in it.
