no, were attempting to penetrate a 1/4 inch flange with a 135 amp welder. why do you ask about flux core? what characteristics make it look like it was made with a flux core welder?

turn down the wire speed just a hair and the spatter will disappear, or just trigger it

that is the perfect size welder to be doing what you are

what is that 3.5 or 4??

Zach, my wire couldn't go any lower(3.5/10) without getting continuous burnback. I know how to set a welder ...and It's 3 inch.

Looks like the one I'm looking at purchasing Lincoln sp135t

The welder is perfectly capable of the job but not with that tiny ass long extension cord.

I'm a beginner welder and can tell you your much better then me Joel. I have been doing a lot of research especially with the Lincoln sp135 which that welder looks to be. So what welder is that?

All I'm saying is that your losing a lot of current with that long extension cord. It may be adequate gauge like parker says but where is it plugged into? I suppose to an outlet? How far away is the outlet from the fuse panel and with what gauge wire?

I can guarantee you if the welder was plugged directly into the fuse panel or to a outlet close by those welds would be better.

I would if i was there

lol, you do realize that means 3/16" full penetration from one side with no joint preparation...............

Good thing you are going for for 100% melt-through on a 1/4" flange when you are welding a 16 ga. tube to it 😕

.little bit of difference going from production welding where coarse machine parameters are set and you are in charge of electrode manipulation only............. don't get more and more into this, the welds look fine, all i am saying is that the machine was not set 100% properly and it wasn't

Because of the spatter. From my experience....there should never be spatter like that from a MIG unless you have something set wrong or are out of gas, heh.
