Insurance probably cost 10k, if that. Everyone races at their own risk and signs their life away. Case in point, You can go out to BIR and race with professional driving help on a prepped course for around 200 dollars. This sounds like a blast but is very overpriced in my opinion. With that being said, I hope the event goes well. Its nice to see someone around here taking a step in getting some more racing in the Midwest.

Yep thats cheaper and if thats what you would rather do more power to you. The price may be adjusted in subsequent events but the current fee is not out of line with other similiar events. You also have to consider the fact that we may not get 50 qualifying entries. Plan for the worst and hope for the best.

Nope, nothing wrong with making a dollar, If thats how you present yourself. But If you are doing it solely to better the racing community, it might be a good idea to make it affordable for enthusiasts. Thats All I'm saying. You could expect 50 entries for sure if you lowered the price even to 300 dollars. For instance, Tintmasters doesn't make any money off the drags. In fact, I bet they probably lose money. I believe Shane does it to help the dying "scene", but I guess I can't really speak for him. -
I love how people come on here and bitch bout this when someone is trying to put this on, probably the fact that no one knows him... if it was someone in town i'm guessing there woulnd't be as much bitching

Their fee for the unlimited is $600. I can show you other events that are more expensive then us if you like. The thing is the board is just a bunch of regular joes that can't afford to chip in the extra if this event loses money. -

These days nobody in their right mind is gonna invest in something to lose $$ let alone break even. Time is money and thats what people dont understand and thats why things around the FM area die out.
Who here would go to their job if they knew they were gonna lose $$ doing it or break even @ the end of the day, same concept applies here....

Going to your job is COMPLETELY different than try to organize something so you can have fun. I'de be willing to bet this guy isn't an event promoter by trade. Either way he has not paid for any advertising on this website.

This area is so hellbent on being "good northern folk" (some would call it cheap), and forget we live in a capitalistic world. If YOU think it should be cheaper, YOU can do something about that and create your OWN event at whatever price you feel is "fair".
Joel, who are you to control what is advertised on this site? He didn't come here looking to turn a profit, he simply posted up an event for the scene(after all, this is FargoStreet, is it not?). I obviously can't speak for Jim, but I would assume he sees this different than "advertising".
And just because event promoter isn't his "job", doesn't mean he can't make money on it? If this is true, then me making money by fixing someones computer on the side isn't "fair", because its not my job?

In this case there is work and overhead needed to organize the event. I guarntee if they lose $$ on the event the first year they won't continue to organize it.
If you want to spend your time organizing events and losing $$ then by all means go ahead and do so but once its coming out of your pocket i bet they'd come to an end real quick. This is the exact reason why race teams, sanctioning bodies, and events all over the country and are cancelled because they are not making $$. It's a hobby as well as a business and @ that right minded business people dont keep losing $$ trying to support dying efforts.

I never said he didn't deserve the right to post it here. But you guys all act like I'm doing something wrong by bringing up the fact that this guy is making a buck off people. I never said it was good or bad. He denied it and I call BS; That's all.

And maybe he isn't a person that stands to gain from this, and could be loosely involved on the outside. He says everyone is a volunteer(IDK about you, but that means free?). Just give him a break, if you want to go, then sign up. If you don't want to go, or don't like it, just keep it to yourself(echoing myself even) and create your own cheaper event.
