Grand Forks Part II

just a note...anyone other than people in comas have no reason not to be putting out some sort of effort! Shuttle drivers are needed, sandbaggers, people at volunteer sign up stations...heck if you have to work, drop off a bag of snacks or pack of pop at a volunteer site or Fargodome or Nemzek. Everyone can at least support all the volunteers!

taking a break and warming up for a little while, I've been outside in this shit since around 9 this morning...the water is coming up quick in my area but we are all still fine and the roads are still above water....I'm going to put up some pics in the flood pictures thread in a few minutes.

There is no excuse to be sitting on your butt in a time like this.

on my way back to the Fargodome to run forklift. Might very well be up there until they start shutting down tonight.I thought that was you on the forklift. The production line really changed since I was out there Monday. It was chaos then, now it's a finely tuned machine.

+1 I killed my back pretty good yesterday, and could barely stand up today but still helped out. Heading to walmart right now to get some tylenol and icy hot. I hate to say it but I think the river might go over 41ft. Going to go kick back a few then go help a friends uncle in the morning.

My friend's mom in OakCreek needs help desperately. Their dike is high enough but is only half as wide it should be for that height. The city called the whole neighborhood a "sacrifice" and is building a dike behind it. The city moved all the volunteers away to other areas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Call 585-217-2711 or just stop by if you can help. I'll be there whenever my back is strong enough to let me walk right again.

uhhhh, anyone heard if the shyenne just crested, is the water spilling out, or is the gauge fucked up? According to the hydrograph of the shyenne at the west fargo diversion it's dropped .8 ft between 7:00 and 10:15.

well didnt go to sandbag central tonight. Right now I am taking a break from sandbagging close to my apartment. Down on south 42nd street. there is a diversion that is pretty high right now and when the river crests its expected to flood. They are building up earthen levees on the parts that dont have housing there, the rest is sandbags.

Off to drive the graveyard shift for a few hours.
Hopefully this superdike in Moorhead gets a good chunk done tonight.

Things were much much better tonight than Monday night/ Tuesday morn when I was there. Worst part about it for me was the stupid people that don't know how to get out of the way or don't even flinch when you're sitting behind them with the forklift and the horn blaring (and then I get in trouble for getting 'too close' to them).
I'll probably be back there tomorrow at 6pm again...
