So if you leave a window open in your house when your sleeping and someone breaks in and murders a family member of yours, You have no room to complain?
As much as I hate to say it, I'm with Groshong on this one:icon_scratch:\Joel, you know that is not what I am saying. If you leave your garage open/unlocked or your car unlocked, how can you be upset when something is missing?

How can you be upset? Maybe because someone had the nerve to come onto your property obviously lookin to steal shit. If they want your shit bad enough, they're gonna break your window anyways. -
I'm gonna agree with cmk.. if u leave ur door unlocked whether its your car or house it's just asking for shit to get taken... it doesnt take much to at least lock it... most theives are gonna take the easiest thing to get.. I'm sure most of the time they'll take something worth a little less if it's easier to get and the fact it's a little less likely to get caught (just opening a door opposed to breaking in a window)
No i'm not saying stealing isnt wrong, I hate ppl that take shit, but when someone leaves an easier target i dont feel as bad, cause it's just stupid..

I don't think CMK is saying you DESERVE to have shit stolen if you leave the house unlocked, just that by not locking it you really aren't doing anything to prevent the theft. Should you have to lock your stuff? Hell no! But it does reduce the risk exponentially....and given the frequency that I see thief threads on this forum, I think it is very fair to say that you are just making things too easy for the thief if you don't as obviously there are plenty of them out there.

Locked or unlocked, nobody has a right to go into or onto your private property. Should I have to lock my car? No. Does it help prevent thefts? Depends what they are after. If they want your CD player, they are just going to break the window and take it. I've had it happen twice.
Holden (and everyone else who has had stuff stolen) has the right to be pissed regardless of whether the vehicle was locked or unlocked.

While there are people out there who steal and have no problem with taking what is not theirs, one would have to be a moron to not make an attempt to secure their possessions, money and personal information. By leaving your vehicle unlocked, there is NOTHING to stop somebody from opening the door and taking what they want. If you at least lock the doors then the person has to make an effort to break in rather than it being just a crime of opportunity.

And the thing is, its much easier and a lot quieter to open up a unlocked door than break a window.truth...

Not to mention alot less noticeable and suspiciousexactly any passerby that doesnt know the owner of the car wouldnt think twice usually about someone opening a door and taking something out.. most likely think it's the owner.. however if u see someone walk to a car and smash the window on it, hmm, they might be stealing something...
