HID kits - The real story on why you shouldn't use them
I really hope this thread can help you guys. I found it on another site and thought it could save myself and few others the headache of constantly explaining this.
Your're making the road more dangerous than it already is by adding a HID kit to your car. so please do HID the right way by doing a retrofit.
HID kits are illegal due to the glare that they cause. Glare is Light that is emitted in a Uncontrollable path. When light is traveling in a uncontrollable path it can hit other vehicle operators affecting there vision because of the High amount of uncontrollable light that is being Emitted from a HID kit in a standard Halogen housing. If you have ever turned a flashlight on right in front of your face while it is dark out, that is the same feeling that the other drivers on the road experience from a standard HID kit.
OEM Vehicles such as Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus are all equipped with HID or Xenon Headlights. Some use reflector housing’s without projectors. Others use HID projectors.
The Lexus IS300 is a Prime Example of a HID reflector housing. It does not use a Projector. It uses a Specially designed Reflector housing that is meant to use HID. This does not create the Super sharp cutoff. But it does control where the light is being Emitted.
Other vehicles such as the Honda S2000 Use HID projectors, These Projectors are meant to use HID. They are Specially Designed and have been tested Hundreds of times to get the right projection of light while maintaining a Good Cutoff.
Here are pictures of Halogen housings mated with a HID kit

This 'teg is a prime example of Glare. This is what it looks like to oncoming traffic:

NOW THE GOOD stuff!
This is what HID is suppose to look like.. Pictured is a STi:

Talk about a Razor Sharp Cutoff. Pictured is a S2000 OEM setup:

See the difference?

Its not just honda's either. Here is a mid 90's Lexus with a HID kit:

I used to have my 8000k HID in OEM housing, and it was really bright eventhough it was aimed it down. There wasn't any glares like these pictures. Now i have them in projectors, a lot better with a sharp cut off.
-
So from what i understand if i bought a set of projector headlights for my car (Btw BMW can be retrofited to a beretta) I should be able to run HIDs in the projected part of the headlight ??
These aren't the ones i'm getting but i should be able to put HIDs in my bright side safely?

taking an OEM projector such as a BMW projector, and putting it in your cars headlights...
ret·ro·fit
v. ret·ro·fit·ted, or ret·ro·fit ret·ro·fit·ting, ret·ro·fits
v. tr.To provide (a jet, automobile, computer, or factory, for example) with parts, devices, or equipment not in existence or available at the time of original manufacture.
- To install or fit (a device or system, for example) for use in or on an existing structure, especially an older dwelling.

I have never understood the draw to HIDs. People on the mazda6club.com boards are all over them but I don't get it. $400 bucks for some lights? HIDs are one thing I'd rather have factory equipped than shoe horned on.
Excellent post!

ok so let's say hid's may be in my future, where would i most easily find the hid projectors to retrofit into my headlights for good amount of money, ebay??? Some specific site???You could find a set of Evo8 housing.

I've thought about putting HID's on my R6, which already has projector beam headlights. The bulbs themselves aren't too high price (~$100/pr), but the ballasts are super-expensive. I found do-it-yourself ballast plans on the 'net...anyone tried this before? The only thing I'm worried about is getting the voltage right; I'd hate to burn out a bulb prematurely at $50 apiece.

Check DSMTuners there are a bunch of people who've done it
