So basically, Xbox's are going to continue to use the current generation of disks aka WE CAN STILL COPY them.

they basically did it to be the cheapest on the market...not the best...it was a value thing...i believe they struggled to decide whether or not to have a dvd player right up until the end...a big part of their decision was also because nintendo has always been a target for piracy. back with their cartridges they were fairly easy to copy.. which is one of the reasons they went with the smaller disks. as far as i know, you still cant copy them as easily as xbox/ps2 games.

Also note that consoles don't have to drive the same level of graphic detail as the computer based games. Even HD (1080i) is less resolution than anyone would consider running on a home machine for games if they're a gamer. 720p would be a bit more impressive, but still, the point is consoles can get away with lesser video cards because they're not driving the same resolutions as a computer.

Microsoft is expected to pickup the loss for the console and make up for it in software sales... From research, the think the top people will pay for the console is around $300.
Sony is expected to charge considerably more for the PS3
