I can agree w/ points 1 and 2 sucking, but the monthly fee thing is well worth it for MMORPG games that are persistent environment, w/ constant upgrades, constant change, and multiple large servers that store the majority of the games content on them. If these games weren't worth it, people would play Guild Wars instead of WoW, EQ2, EQ1, DAoC, SWG, Matrix Online, LOTR Online, etc.... BTW, all of these "pay to play" games are outpacing Guild Wars which is free to play (after software purchase).....there must be a reason. It could also be the fact that Guild Wars is TERRIBLE. I'm so pissed I wasted $30 on it.
When you think about it - aside from the initial game purchase - if you spend one night a month at home playing WoW instead of being out at a bar or cruising around, you'll have saved money. That's actually the main deciding factor I used when I first bought the game. $15 a month is nothing compared to a night at the bar.
IMHO, The Burning Crusade killed WoW. I know quite a few people that just quit playing when they hit 70, me included. Unless you don't have a job, friends, or any other sort of contact with people at all, it's just pointless. We're all waiting for Warhammer to come out.
If anyone wants to buy an account with a fairly well geared 70 dwarf hunter plus alts on a PvE server, let me know.

the graphics are almost the same as a 360....and coming from the person that ranted forever about how forza multiplayer insert boner can do this, and that...in forza you must pay too..Forza for one year = $50 xbl fee and you can play other games on it...
WoW for one year = $156 and its the only game you are paying for...lolz for you saying you have to pay for playing online...but $50/year for playing a bunch of games or $156/year to play one single game...sounds like it'd get old...I'd rather spend the money on 2-3 other 360 games...
and lolz at myself for responding to this 2 months after he posted the above

To compare Forza or any other game to a MMORPG is a joke. Yes, there are aspects you can only do online in Forza, but the level of gameplay isn't even close. It'd be like comparing a Super Nintendo to the Wii, yes they are both gaming platforms from Nintendo and you can surely get a Nintendo for a lot cheaper than a Wii, but does that make the Super Nintendo superior?

That and a bunch of xbox games have upgrades quite often too. Halo 2, as an example, has now had 4 map updates since it came out...and for the record...RPG's are a joke :p: ...lol...i just cant stand the damn things...dont got the patience

^ they're made so people with no lives can live their lives out through a game. I play video games once and a while and enjoy it, but seriously some people do it 24/7, it's just sad I mean go outside and do something...Wrong, its not so they can live their lives through a game. It's like anything else, a form of entertainment. Never once in my life have I thought...Jeez, I wanna be a witch doctor/alchemist/necromancer, but I have played chars that are those classes.

Chuck...do you really presume that he meant the literal characters in the game? C'mon, he simply meant that many people get carried away with it and just can't stop playing, therefore making WoW their (social) life, and how you twisted that into literal characters, I am not certain. Maybe it's bc you don't know people that can't stop playing...people whos grades have gone down the shitter bc of the game... If you can play it and just play it on occasion and no more then there's no problem. That's the bottom line here...it's more than entertainment for some, it's a lifestyle.

Billy Madison: I disagree, it's a very good game, but i think Donkey Kong is the best game ever.

I probably know more MMORPG'ers that are addicted to WoW, EQ2, EQ1, Vanguard, SWG, UO, LoTR, etc.. than anyone on here....and yes, I've played every game I just listed... He stated that people who have no lives live out their lives through the game. I call BS on that. Are these games stupid addicting? Yes, absolutely! But the people that are addicted to them didn't necessarily not have a social life prior to playing these games. They probably had an addictive personality. Really any game can be addicting (or gaming system for that matter).
I don't think that anyone comes to these type of games looking for a life consuming event. It just happens. It is very easy to get caught up in the game and establish some very real relationships with people you meet. Most of the people I played with regularly have my phone number, aim, icq, yahoo, email, etc... because it turns out that they were nice people who shared some of the same interests that I did.
You tried to justify costs with me Torbs, ok, lets go down that road.
EQ2/WoW Annual Subscription = $180 + ~$40 Annually for expansions, etc.. (~$220 a year total)
XBL Annual Subscription = $50 + $40 for each additional game you buy....I know of no console players who have just one game for their console, lets say that you buy 5 games a year thats ~$250 annually to play mediocre games that you lose interest in quickly.
Therefore, by my calculations, it is only fair to assume that MMORPGS>console games since they cost less to maintain a level of enjoyment.

I have bought 3 games my whole life for my xbox...Halo 2, Forza 1 and 2...soon to be 5 with Halo 3 and NBA 2K8...The other normal xbox games I got were bought way back in the day by my dad...so those i really didnt have to pay for...that and i never even had XBL til about 3 years ago either heh...i was a bit behind on the times lol
So for ME...XBL is cheaper...for others that get bored with games prolly more...but who knows. It's all on a person by person basis.
