BULLSHIT! You can read a book about welding all day and when time comes to lay a bead it will look like shit. Dave's does 95% hands on actual welding. Just cause its a longer course doesn't mean shit.

wow are you serious?? I am not even going to argue with such idiotic statement

Even in a simple process like MIG i bet you dont even understand the principle or differences between the different transfers like Spray, Pluse, or Short Arc... or how different sheilding gases affect penetration or why

My dad has always been an excellent welder even without any welding education, because he has tons of experience..........

but when i tell him things and he understands why certain things are doing what they may it makes him a that much better welder

Ok, just so you know zach, we learn about Globular, Spray, short circuit etc.
The only difference between NDSCS and Daves is that the NDSCS program gets more extensivly into shit you don't need in most production fields...
Dave's teaches you everything you need to know to become a good welder(other than the stuff which you learn in industry, which even 2 years in school cant teach you) and NDSCS teaches you a lot of theory, and extra information which is helpful but not necessarily as important as straight up skill.

Ask your teacher why the local skills contests stop asking dave's students to come in.... They always waxed the 2 year tech school kids.

I started at the same time as a kid who graduated form NDSCS with a welding degree, we called him fat Jeff. He always wore his jacket telling everyone he could weld so much better, and then when they asked him to be a door welder, he could never pass any tests... I passed the door test first try... along with the other two people in my class who started with me at DMI....

As soon as you finish your school, let me know and we'll have a weld-off.

Zac, you've been welding forever, not just in school, so your situation is a little different.

I am done arguing, it is pointless

lets get this out first...... AWS contest>>>>>>>10x's >>>>> skills contest

I won the AWS contest in SMAW (stick) in which i was competing against more that just students i was competing against "in the industry welders" aka old guys

over 65 people if i remember right

with open root joints and out of position

that is where i won my 200 dollar hood

Zac, my point was is that your welding skill is not completely due to going to school.

Just cuz u won a welding contest doesn't mean your school is better than someone who didn't...

Go challenge Dave Lynnes to a weld-off...

The only reason school matters for those things is because you have a certificate that says you dedicated 2 years of your life to learn everything there is to know about welding. That knowledge doesnt make their welds look better or make them stronger.

That doesn't even really matter its the welding cert that really matters.

+1 for zac challengeing Dave Lynne's to a weld off. Dave would make your welds look like shit on pipe. In fact Chad that works there will do the same to you.

I know Spray, Globular, Short Circuit etc. so way to go assuming shit without actually know most powerful welder from above. I guess that means since I just went to school for 2 weeks all i should know is how to turn on my machine right? Damn I got screwed.

that if i didnt go to school i wouldnt have a damn clue what to do because you have to have pure argon. its the fact that there are 100s of gas mixtures out there and that is half the game having the right gases at places like Case and Dmi they have set guide lines. so dont start saying that you can weld better then other people. because MIG is easy

Devon, MIG welding is easy. can everyone make it look good or strong enough? no. Anyone can look up on a chart, in a book or on the internet what kind of gas you use. that doesn't really strike me as a necessary skill...
