That sucks that he smacked trunk like that. I know they'll often times check to make sure the trunk is secured so they don't get surprised during the stop; that they're taught in the academy.

Man, this sux...granted, you could have held your composure a lot better...the speeding ticket sounds like bullshit...i know you dont care bout the seatbelt ticket so i wont even bother with it...i would take it to court and have written documentation that states the radar picks up the faster of two cars...i think that's the best you will be able to do. Also, maybe bring you cop friend with you and have him state the facts about the radar as well?...Granted it prolly isn't worth your time with the 65 bux...it is worth it to be a pain in the cops' ass IMO...If they never have to go to court and never get a challenge, they will continue to place blame where it shouldn't be...

did the car have video in it? If so, request a copy of the tape be held for when you contest the ticket. Otherwise...your word vs. his...and you'll probably lose.

I dont know if it is true or not but i have heard to ask if the radar has been calibrated recently and ask if the officer has been certified to use the radar recently. I know both of them have to be done farely often but i dont know if it will get you anywhere just something i heard.

It's not gonna get you anywhere on the side of the road. Officers calibrate the radar with a tuning fork before every shift. Also, you would have to prove through questioning that they are not qualified to use a radar gun. Its tough to do.

Most law enforcement officers do calibrate before each shift and after each stop. They also receive ongoing training throughout their careers on how to use all of their equipment. But, it doesn't hurt to ask in court.

There are not many depts/lea's out there that have radar equipment that requires tuning forks anymore, most of the better funded depts, and certainly HP has 'self' calibrating equipment, that is most newer radar units have a button you press and the gun tunes itself, wether it is with a tone generator or otherwise.

My post was not to get anyones panties in a twist, now i realize there were some better ways to go about the convorsation with this officer, but... i know for a fact i was not doing 89 or 90 and i watched the asshat behind me run up on me at a rediculos speed. baisically i got ticketed for someone elses lead foot.
