skyline question
-
imho a skyline isn't worth the money if you wanna go fast, because i was just reading an article last night about an r32 in colorado that was set up for straight line racing (drag). he said that the only problem with the car is if you want to modify it. you A) don't have a lot of options to choose from B) parts are very VERY hard to come by in the US C) it is very expensive when you do find stuff because chances are its gonna need to be shipped overseas.the guy was running like 10.3x i think and he had over 100,000 dollars in upgrades. so if you wanna be different and have a very nice car go for it, but if you want to go upgrade and go real fast you should probably go with something else.
another thing he might want to think about is skyline is giving a last hurrah before they release the new skyline. they are re releasing the r34 and it is pimped to hell. it has like 500hp. they are only releasing 20 of them and if you want one you need to sign up on the waiting list NOW. it costs 200,000 dollars shipped, but well worth it imho just to have 1 of 20. here is the site http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=31&article_id=9092

A non legalized already in the states R33 GT-T sells for roughly $30,000 with low miles in immaculate shape. An R32 GT-T sells for roughly $18-$22,000 in the states. These are already here but not legalized cars.
So yeah a WRX and a Skyline are somewhat in the same price range. Legalization fees kill the price of the skyline though.

basically heres out it goes.. I'm pretty sure he has the money for both, if he gets the skyline i'm pretty sure that's all he gets. If he goes for a WRX he will put some stuff into the engine and then also buy another bike. So yeah I'm pretty sure he has the money.

I've never seen a skyline in ANY condition go for anything less than $50,000....on average I've seen them for sale at about $75,000-$100,000 or more. This kid must have a TON of money to be doing that. -
I really couldn't tell u how much he has, I guess I've never asked him. I just briefly talked to him about what he wants to get and he asked me to find out what he would have to do to get a skyline legalized that's all I know for now.

I was talking w/ the owner of Advaned Auto down in Duluth a few months back, he was the owner of the white 92 R32 that was @ Autovations. He has been trying to sell his for some time now. He was looking for $20k when i last talked to him. What he said one of te biggest problems is is that they dont even come w/ a title. You get a bill of sale and your on your own. He hasn't been able to get his legalized so he was getting rid of it. Insurance is also another kicker, basically you have to basically scam your insurance company which is fraud. Only weay people had been doing it was buying a wrecked 240SX and titling it under than VIN and as a 240SX, which isn't eactly legal either.
Basically what it comes down to is if you want a Skyline you pay the big bucks for one from an importer who can legalize and do it legitly, or you buy one and basically just dont really drive it, or drive it illegaly and hope you dont get caught.

i you check the nhsta site it has the skylike listed as one of the vechiles able to be imported
here is the link http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/ELIG071404.html -
Ok well the issue really isn't whether he can get the car or not mainly its getting it legalized and that's what we are trying to figure out. I just talked to him tonight at dinner and he said he's found some pretty reasonable ones online, he just wants to know what it will take to get it legalized.

Basically to get a car legalized that doesnt have a title you are going to have to do a couple things. First the DMV will tell you to track down the origional owner and see if you can get the title from them. Being the car is from japan that wont happen. So your going to have to go to the DMV with the bill of sale. Then they will have to make up a new VIN for the car, and a new title. This doesnt come cheap and its very time consuming. After thats all done the car will be registered with the DMV have a legal U.S. VIN # and Title. Then you will be able to liscence and register the car.
Now if you can find an un-legalized one in the states and get it to ND your going to save yourself a bundle in legalization being ND doesnt have emissions laws. Thats where a large amount of money is spent legalizing imported cars through importers on the west and east coasts. They have to legalize them before they leave the port so they go through emissions laws and a bunch of shit has to be changed on the cars.
The chances that he will actually be able to legalize a skyline in ND are slim to nil... id have him talk to the DMV and see if their able to legalize a japanese car without a U.S. VIN or title.

Thanks! That's what I was wondering. I'll let him know what you guys have suggested. Right now he's just looking into it all to see what it will take..
