I dont know if this particular brand is good but the aircraft paint remover should do it.

do you the magnets need to be reused?

Sounds like a dumb question, but i am not positive they need to be salvaged if you say you were heating them...... unless you were using a heat gun, and in my head you were using a rose bud. haha

Paint Removers such as Old Masters TM-4 would work well because they are heavy bodied almost like a paste for vertical surfaces. Make sure to wear gloves, beacause it burns. TM-4 has the ability to remove up to 15 layers at a time, so it should suffice for epoxy

Methylene Chloride is the only chemical that will touch it. It also causes more health hazards than I would be willing to deal with. I would replace the cam gear sensor Mr. Moneybags.

Try freezing it and a good whack. Use a can of freon, spray it upside down to get the liquid on it.

Unhook the freon line from your homes central air, point it an the part, have a beer, chuckle and go back inside.
Then use a 12lb hammer, it will pop right off........in little pieces.
Come on! Its magnets, freezing them and hitting them wont ruin them right?

Oh, thats different. Then just cut them off with a dremel and clean the excess off with a razor blade and some emery cloth.

The magnets are 1/8" diameter by 1/4" deep. The cam gears are drilled so that the magnets drop into a 1/8" hole and are flush with the surface of the gear. Then a little epoxy is poured in the hole and the magnet set in. I haven't tried to drill or machine the magnets yet, I put two in incorrectly and hate to have to start all over with a new gear. There are 13 magnets in the gear, and a new set of magnets is $80.

Can you drill the backside with a small bit and try to push them out?
