By the time you buy an adapter you could have bought a new hard drive (on top of the fact the adaptors often suck). Get a sata hard drive and an external cage for your IDE drive if there is stuff you need off it.

You can buy an adapter yes. I wouldnt waste your time though. Just go buy a sata hard drive for less than 100 bucks for a 500+ gig (Could probably get a 1TB if u shop at newegg).

You can get the IDE external HD cases off of newegg also for $20-30.

            your options:

            1. get an external adapter to read the ide drive
            2. have someone else do it and put the data on your sata drive; ditch the ide drive

i would pass up the adapter, get a dedicated sata drive. This is from experience, the adapters do work, but not terribly reliably, the ones i have used would have troubles working sometimes on boot up, others they would work and randomly quit in the middle of working on something.

Buying an external IDE controller is better than an "adaptor" but he got it running on the IDE channel.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!
