Itunes warning!!
-
Just because I would have liked to get a warning on this I thought i'd share with everyone. If you have itunes/ipod BE CAREFUL about the new itunes 9.0.xxx because it has some software in it that can tell if the music in your library was legally downloaded. As all of my music is not legal lol it wiped some of mine. From what I can gather anything i have downloaded with bit torrent stayed and is ok... but my older music that i had downloaded with limewire and just kept thru out the years got wiped so now i have to load just THAT music back onto my computer from my ipod... Just thought i'd save anyone else the headache that i endured...

damn figures that was only a matter of time. i think i already updated and everything too... shit
-
I guess im stickin to the old school shit for the rest of my life.
-
So basically apple wrecks your shit (vandalism) if you have music on your iPod that wasn't bought from them. Some would consider that malicious software.
I knew there was reason I decided not to install the new update.
I stopped using limewire a long time ago, it's been nothing but torrents for me for the past few years. -

allows you to pull your MP3's off your ipod and back up/etc.. as needed.

I cant believe im getting technology tips from you old fogeys lol, jp

Floola allows you to drag & drop videos as well which I why I prefer it.
EDIT: It also will convert non-mp4 files into MP4 so you can watch them on your ipod....just by dragging and dropping.

haven't noticed any losses on my end. but then again, i gave up on a lot of my old stuff from 8-9 years ago. majority of it now is recent.

Kossick... are you sure the database just didn't get corrupted and the option to remove the songs when they arent in the database was checked?
If Apple were doing this, there would be a HUGE uproar on the internet, and I havent found anything of the sort yet...
MP3 files contain little data besides the compressed audio... just the ID3 tag / adjoining information.
It'd be almost impossible for them to build a database and remove data, not to mention I think this would be illegal.
Anybody else want to chime in here?

I would be willing to bet it would be a violation of tampering with files that are not their own. I haven't read anything about it either. I'm guessing it was a user error or somethign was corrupt.

Either that or something that checks for some form of "DRM/Protected" and just won't include non DRM content in it's lists.
-
Depending on how the files that are downloaded using bit torrent are ripped initially or if an ISO is downloaded they can still retain the DRM.

Yes, you can download a DRM file encoded file, but you need proper rights to play it.
We're not talking about ISO's, and files that are ripped from CD's don't have DRM built in. We're talking about iTunes and music files... Anyway, like he's already stated there are alot of non-DRM files that didn't get deleted / moved / mysteriously disappeared.
