Top End Dragways?
-
It is for the most part the home owner causing the inability of the night races. More so when the CUP (condition use permit) was written to allow the dragstrip to be operated on that land, he as well as a few others i believe stressed there concern of races going longer then 1 hour before sunset. So when they wrote the CUP they included in there that the hours of allowed operation were 9am to 1 hour before sunset. So honestly even if the old guy had agreed to allowing night races or was bought off by someone to allow it, it would have violated the CUP and if anyone from the commissioners office had seen it or heard of it, it would have put the entire track in danger of being shut down and them loosing the CUP.
I am working and getting this fixed but its going to take awhile to push all the zoning threw so actual night races most likely wont be a reality until the 2012 season.
However, like above I am currently aloud to race until 1 hour before sunset, so the Friday night races will go until 9-10 (depending on how far out we can call "sunset").

Right, and I could be wrong, but in my specific example, I think they had actually gotten permission from the other residents around and/or the Sheriff/County. It was awhile ago that they last tried to get around the issues. Either way, its unfortunate, but good luck changing everything!

Wrap it up by 9:00 and dont worry about it. Your track crew will be tired by then anyway.
Whats the big deal about racing after dark?
A lot of tracks have had success doing race nights on Wed/Fri after work hours, and still being able to keep every possible "regular" race weekend. I'm pretty sure BIR does Wednesday night "street legals" or whatever they call them. Not to mention, the air is usually cooler at night, without all the heat/humidity at 3pm on summer afternoon. Lots of folks head to the lakes on the weekends, and I have personally had to make that choice a few times...the lake won every time. Plus, just racing under the lights just seems cooler, brings memories of racing on closed highways. Either way, we don't expect an old guy like yourself to understand

Yeah call me crazy, I would rather race than go to the lake and prefer to be able to see the track when I am on it. :icon_jokercolor:

So you gonna let us run low 10's without a cage and safty equip on street legal days?
-
Nope
If someone consistently runs faster then they are tech'd/equipped for or knowingly runs faster then they are set up for, they will be asked to stop running for the day. If it becomes a continuous problem they will not be aloud back on to the track until the vehicle meets the tech requirements for what I/we know the car can/has run.
Now, am I going to be a tech Nazi and a dick about it? No. I will allow certain things under certain condition. An example (and sorry for using you Christian but the situation fits well) Christian has been shooting for his 9 second pass for awhile, and getting closer and closer. I would not at any point of him getting close to 9's stop him or worn him of going faster then his car allows, nor once he hit his 9 stop him from running that day. I would mention to him that if he wants to be consistent 9's he should update his car to allow, see above statement.
Also if someone shows up, and appears to be doing the same as christian and finally hits that faster mark, he/she will be allowed to continue to race and run faster then they are allowed to, within reason. If someone is tech'd to run down to a 10.00 and is running 9.90-9.99 they are fine for that day, if they get down to say 9.75 or in that area they will be asked to stop running for the day.
Now if you want to run fast but don't want to bring your vehicle up to what is required to run that fast, you can still run, just have to let off and not make a full run.
I realize I've been rambling a bit but to sum it up, if you plan to run faster then your vehicle is allowed to, either get it up to tech or don't run that fast. I will allow it for that day (within reason) but if you plan to continue to run that fast get it up to snuff.
This isn't just a power trip or me being a dick, if something happens I lose my insurance as well as other things and the track shuts down, plain and simple.

Heres a comment from mustang forum im on.Wow, I haven't been on here in a while! I almost forgot this site until I saw your post over there....
I've only been out there a few times in the last few years. The girls are getting older now and I can take two of them with me relatively easy, so that should allow me more trips to the strip.
I look forward to seeing what you can do with the place. Good luck with the new venture:icon_salut:

That depends, I will have to brush up on IHRA as well as other organizations licenses. I will defiantly honor any racing organization license, however your racing will be limited to that organizations limitations. For example (and not sure if this is right just an example) a NHRA license for ET/MX (ET Motorcycle) licenses you for 9.99 to 7.50, now if a IHRA license licenses you to run 9.99 to 9.00, you will be limited to running 9.00 or slower without any issues.
