Mega Squirt

Has anyone looked it to this? I found this very intresting, its just like a full stand alone for less than half the cost..Also works on almost any car... I want to hear some pros and cons?PROS:
Controls Fuel , Spark , Timing, Wideband O2, NOS, WAter injection, Can run more injectors if wanted it, Ditch the MAF and run map sensor, Control your fans, and launch control (2-step , stutter box) Im sure id does more and why purchase a $1,000 plus unit when you can build one yourself?CONS: You have to wire it up your self...
May not be as good as AEM EMS but id say just as good if not better than DSM link, Haltec, VPC,S-afc......

Lets wait for his post to find out????

I know a lot of guys on Probetalk run it on their cars never heard anything about it on DSMtuners, though I have never looked.

A friend of mine in Phoenix has it on his 77 280Z, runs 13.9's with it, N/A. Cant be all that bad! its a pretty nice set up, he is running fuel only right now, no spark. its really a good idea to have a wideband to help you tune. Only thing he hasn't worked out is some of the accel pump features for partial thorttle roll on, but full throttle, the thing screams. Of course he has a ported head, custom intake and a big hairy lumpy cam. Damn thing also gets about 24mpg around town and lil over 30 on the highway!
Im probably going to be running it by the end of the summer!

The megasquirt is mostly used by people with cars that have no viable piggy backs, or those who want a cheap standalone ECU. I was thinking about getting one for the yota, maybe I will next summer if I still have the thing.. Personally, I wouldn't put it on a DSM as I think the boost is somewhat limited to around 20psi if I remember? Maybe you can use a different map, but I am not sure. Have to read up for some details Al. I guess it couldn't hurt, you can get fully assembled MS and sparks for like $300.

I have a Megasquirt in my posession. It's going on my Probe. I bought it assembled, so as long as I can trust that it was assembled correctly, that will save me a lot of time. These units are very customizable. Due to the open source design and a lot of extremely intelligent and talented people, new features are constantly under development. It's really exciting stuff. Also, the price can't be beaten.

I built the computer early last summer and everything tested out just fine. I will be running fuel only control right away until I get all of the bugs worked out, then I will add the spark output option and take over my timing as well. The entire Megasquirt community has been growing a lot in the last year which gets more people involved in finding new ways of using the existing board for more options. I haven't been in the Megasquirt loop (I know what you're thinking) for quite a while again, but there were plans for ULTRA Megasquirt which was going to be a extremely powerful, reliable computer. It would use a new processor and almost all of the components would be surface mount instead of the thru hole components. This also makes it very hard (pretty much impossible) to hand build. ULTRA Megasquirt would have everything built right in: fuel, spark, wideband input, stepper IAC control, etc.
I can understand spending the money an AEM, MOTEC, Hondata, or comparable standalone computer if they make a kit for the specific application (Civic, Integra, DSM, Supra, RX7, etc.). For those of us who don't have a plug and play EMS available, it really makes sense to Megasquirt because you will have to build your own wiring harness, add sensors, and make other modifications either way. The tuning GUI isn't quite as cool as some of the mainstream EMS's, but the functionality is still all there. Follow the link that Kevin posted and you will have more information than you might want. Also check out http://www.msefi.com/ for more info on developments in hardware, software, different vehicle installs, etc.

AEM Makes an ECU w/ a harness that can be terminated as well.
