coming from a guy who owned one, but probably knows a lot less than most people on here about them.. they CAN be fairly reliable cars if you treat them right. however, most people dont. just keep in mind that if you go racing all over the place, itll break a helluva lot faster.
just go through the car like you would any other. make sure it shifts well, no fluid leaks, fluids were changed regularly, belts are fine (timing belt should be replaced at 90k miles), etc. make sure you hit boost nicely and there arent any leaks. if you can take it for an afternoon, $30 for a full inspection is one of the best things you can do.

My advise would be go and buy/rent a compression tester to check the compression, and always check the cv joints for rips or leaks. Anything with less than 100,000 mi is good, i dont know to much about the 420a if a non turbo is what your looking for. Try the many dsm sites if you havent already lots of good info there. Good luck

DSM's are a love/hate relationship....the 95 and 96 7 bolts are probably prone to problems than any. But if you find a 2g that has a 6 bolt swap then id say your set. Just do some research and be as cautious as you would with buying any car. If you find one thats mildly modified make sure everything is sound. Otherwise good luck!

OZ edition has the "turbo" wing, side skirts, different rims.... but a 420a motor. $7500 for an OZ edition is a rip off. You should be able to find a fair condition turbo dsm (stock) for that.
Buy mine. It will come with a new turbo.
