It is to allow a crumple zone between the body of the person and the engine. It does actually significantly lower the force of impact as it can absorb energy, before contacting the relatively solid engine.

I believe it is a 4640, the cab is closed but would need a new door cuz that broke so it is pulled off. I don't know the model of the trailer but it is a 16' felling. I don't know the model of the ASV either. And the ASV is a closed cab too.
