Josh i wouldnt even read alot of the posts in this thread. The people worried about you making money or the event costing too much are the same people who bitch at a free lunch because you forgot to give them ketchup. Yep, bitch cry and moan because someone made a buck off you. In other words, bubba and joel, and faber you did a bit too, fuck you. Go take your cars to brainerd then. Oh wait, i go there all the time and have never seen you there? In that case shut the fuck up until you plan on contributing to the car scene instead of running it into the ground. Its that very attitude why things generally suck and get cancelled. TM street legals??? yep all for it until its time to pay up the $15 to race and then i see a bunch of rice cluttering the parking area because your too fucking cheap, even when some dude is racing his wifes buick century cause he wants to see the event continue. In other words, if you dont plan on going because your a douche that never does come through for events, or your too fucking cheap to pay a little to play, get the fuck out of the events section. We all know its cheaper to go to BIR, and we all know we wont ever see you at either event anyway. Going balls out down a mountain road with no safety net has no comparison to going around a flat open course like BIR. GTFO
And yes that is how i really feel, i like to rant, go cry emo kid

Thank you all for your support!
Remember just because you can't/don't want to run doesn't mean you can't spectate!

Should have phrased that better?Even if he knows a profit can/will be made, I'm sure he's more interested in making the event happen. Obviously, I can't speak for him, though.
And maybe he isn't a person that stands to gain from this, and could be loosely involved on the outside. He says everyone is a volunteer(IDK about you, but that means free?). Just give him a break, if you want to go, then sign up. If you don't want to go, or don't like it, just keep it to yourself(echoing myself even) and create your own cheaper event.
The only way I stand to gain from this is making sure that there is an event like this around. I NOR ANYONE ON THE BOARD WILL NOT BE PAID FOR OUR EFFORTS! I already pay out of my pocket to support the "car scene" in south dakota. Any extra money left over after all the events bills are paid will be going to equipment for the following year such as radios, barriers, brooms, advertising, chairs. I am taking off of work to make this happen. I am bringing up equipment to use to make this happen. Oh and their are 4 other people on the board devoting just as much as I am if not more just to make this happen. This year will be a bare bones event. I would love to have t-shirts, stickers, schwag to pass out. The event could use some barriers to increase safety in some areas and the bottom line is there is no money for it right now. Any money made from this event will go back into this event the following year to make it bigger/better/more enjoyable.
As to the comment about me making no other posts on the board- I have never been to fargo and it's a long drive for me. I came here to hopefully spread the word about the event to those interested. Honestly I have heard about alot of serious cars up there and wouldn't mind taking a trip to checkout the scene. The negative nancies certainly don't make me want to make the trip but you will find those anywhere. I will give you a hint, I run a website myself for sd on my dime. If anyone on this board wants to come on my board and spread the word about an event going on up there they are MORE then WELCOME. In fact I will be more then happy to put the information on the front page of my site as well. It's all about meeting new people, seeing different cars and maybe learning a thing or two in the process.

Nope, nothing wrong with making a dollar, If thats how you present yourself. But If you are doing it solely to better the racing community, it might be a good idea to make it affordable for enthusiasts. Thats All I'm saying. You could expect 50 entries for sure if you lowered the price even to 300 dollars. For instance, Tintmasters doesn't make any money off the drags. In fact, I bet they probably lose money. I believe Shane does it to help the dying "scene", but I guess I can't really speak for him.

Their fee for the unlimited is $600. I can show you other events that are more expensive then us if you like. The thing is the board is just a bunch of regular joes that can't afford to chip in the extra if this event loses money.

Insurance does not cost 20,000. I'm pretty sure that you are renting the road from the state for a few thousand. Insurance probably cost 10k, if that. Everyone races at their own risk and signs their life away. Case in point, You can go out to BIR and race with professional driving help on a prepped course for around 200 dollars. This sounds like a blast but is very overpriced in my opinion. With that being said, I hope the event goes well. Its nice to see someone around here taking a step in getting some more racing in the Midwest.
Just looked at BIR's website and on may 4th its $265 dollars(plus tax). Yep thats cheaper and if thats what you would rather do more power to you. The price may be adjusted in subsequent events but the current fee is not out of line with other similiar events. You also have to consider the fact that we may not get 50 qualifying entries. Plan for the worst and hope for the best.
PSI2HI;255021 wrote:
Why only 50 entires allowed?
Honestly? We want to make sure everything goes smoothly the first year. After the event we are going to sit down and discuss what changes need to be made. If this years event is succesfull the following year could turn into a 2 day event with multiple stages/courses. We just want to make sure everybody goes home happy and spreads the word. We believe the course will take 8 minutes or so to complete. Due to safety concerns we will only be letting 2 cars on the course at one time. The first of the 2 cars will have to pass a specific checkpoint before the second car is given the go ahead.

50 people at 400 a pop... Sounds like someones gonna be making a lot of money... This thing cant cost even close to that to put on...
Do you have any idea what insurance costs on something like this? Not to mention all the little things such as renting fire extingishers. NOBODY is making a profit on this! Any money left over will go towards making the following years event better. In fact this event is all volunteer! The boards members or anyone associated with this event will not be getting paid.

Or since it's a public road, you can drive it all u want for free... seems like a better deal to me...
If you drove at 3/4 of the speed that people will be driving at this event on another day you would either hit somebody or be arrested. Sure sounds like a better deal :icon_thumright: This is a legal event on a closed road. There will be ems on site in case of any issues. From the sounds of it we have quite a few entries already, this event will only take 50 entries so jump on it!

I cant watch the video (govt bock). is it just curvy? or that mixed with hills, trees and cliffs.i remember driving on the penna turnpike and that was a blast, if this compares i would go if i could.
go to google, click on google maps and type in needles hwy sd. click on the first entry on the list. zoom in and click on the satellite view. This road is AWESOME! When we got together to plan the event this road was out first choice out of any road in the area.
KA-T_240;254622 wrote:
What he said!Yes it would be a totally different thing. But, its a public road that we can go drive on for free when ever we want.
You are right it is a public road. I you attempted to drive this road while it's open to the public like you would at this event you would likely hurt someone and/or end up with a big ticket. This is a legal event with proper insurance, hence the entrance fee.

If it is asphalt or another other paved surface, I think SDDOT needs to think about how much sand they are dropping on roads.
You are correct, this road should be a blast and again I want to stress that we will be sweeping every corner before the event. There will be no gravel/sand in sight!
NSFW-language. Keep in mind the road will be in much better shape come raceday. all corners will be swept to ensure no gravel remains.

BHSCC (Black Hills Sports Car Club) is currently getting Needles Hwy closed for an open road race. We are taking applications, there are only 50 spots open for this event. Rules and regulations will be held up on our sight. We are working with Custer State Park, South Dakota DOT, and Custer County Chamber of Commerce. We are in the works of getting the web-site up. We should have this up soon.
Location:
The road course is located in Custer, South Dakota at Custer State Park. The course is 7.59 miles long and has over 84 turns. We should have enough time in the day to allow three runs. That's a total of OVER 22 miles of racing fun. If you are interested in attending please email [email protected]. Please have the subject as "Race the Needles." The teching and rules are very strict, we reserve the right to turn down any racer/car we see not fit for this event.
Costs:400.00 per car/50.00 for Navigator/10.00 for spectator.
Again you can email me at [email protected] subject "Race the Needles."
When: Saturday, April 25th, 2009 race day. We will do this rain or dry, but NO SNOW. There will be a drivers safety meeting on the 24th of April at Silvan Lake.
The Info I need in the email"

I have only on little video of the type of road it is. I am sure you all have questions, but I can tell you this road is one of the best. This video is when it is crappy. It will NOT be sandy, but it could be wet it just depends.
