The handwritten sign on an eraser board inviting the $1 bets ended with,*** "Let's hope someone wins,"*** according to two journalists for The Associated Press who saw it while checking out a tip of its existence.
A description of the sign was included in an Associated Press national roundup of post-election incidents, many of them racially charged, decrying the election of the nation's first black president. That story appeared Nov. 16, bringing national attention to the controversy, the Press Herald reported.
When you are promoting/encouraging the murder of someone it is no longer a free speech issue.
Try calling the white house and saying that you have $10 that says Bush gets assassinated by January 20th and see how well your free speech holds up.
As of right now, this is just a story w/ no photos or anything of substance backing the claim. I have no doubt, however, that there are people who are making bets on this.
What disturbs me more is that is seems that a majority of the people on this website seem to think this is a good thing and that it is acceptable. I can take a racial joke as well as anyone...and tell them better than most, but I take them for what they are: JOKES! Not a serious threat to someones life. Not a wager on someones life.
This past election cycle ALMOST had me voting republican across the board, until I met/heard the dipshits calling for (or implying that they were all for) the murder of a candidate who shared a different view politically than they do. The fact that anyone wants to be associated with that is fucking absurd to me. I'm done with this topic, I'm done with the people who feel like this, I'm done with this site.
