I did that once and it blew the main fuse under the hood(on mine at least), it may have done the same but not burned quite all the way through, fuses can do that from time to time. When in doubt, check the fuses first.

I'd check your main grounding points to see if any are loose/corroded

If the alternator tests good check your ground cable conections and clean them up and make sure all your battery cables are in good shape an there's no corrosion everywhere...I had a prelude one time that had a new alternator in it, turns out it was just the ground cable was corroded where it connects to the frame...

k, good to hear your thoughts on it, most of you are thinking about the same as me, I wanted to get some opinions before I really looked at it, to see if I can save him some money.

turned out to just be a bad wire. he took it to a shop before I could look at it. thanks guys!
