motors nowadays do not need to be broken in when you drive them off the lot.

[QUOTE=tjamz]Also (not related at all to what I quoted above), subaru strongly recommends keeping the rpm's below 4k RPM for the first 500-1000 miles (first oil change basically). Actually, I think they can void warranty if it has been pushed hard from the get goQUOTE]

They still need to be broken in, it's just not as touchy of a process anymore because of the tolerances engines are machined to now. You still have to break in your cams (happens before first 20 miles so whoopideedo i know) and seat the rings.

While that may be technically true, it doesn't change the way Subaru recommends it and the way they cover the warranty.

Most engines are still in the breakin process well after the 25,000 mile mark. Not nearly as critical as the first miles but, Breaking in nonetheless.

No, then it is called the wearing out process. 😛

Yeah maybe a diesel engine, but definatly not a gas engine. If its not broken in w/in the first couple hundred miles its all the better its gonna get. If you ever compression tested a brand new motor you'll know you have the best compression #'s right off the bat and w/in the first few hundred miles before the cyl walls glaze, after that if the rings didn't seat it's not gonna get no better.

But everyone will have the theories on how they wanna break in their motors but im set on my ways of running them hard right away and it hasn't ever done me wrong. IMO i think think 500-1000 miles break in is a waste of time and all its doing is preventing rings and bearings to seat and set in before its to late. Like i said before we've broken in numerous cars ON THE DYNO that still run today and made 400, 500+ hp w/in the first 50 miles of start up.

I was suppose to wait 500 miles before i got on mine, but the guy who sold us my car took us for a ride right away in it and he got on it right then so then i just kept doing it from there on out figure he wouldn't do it if it wasn't "right"
