Most engines are still in the breakin process well after the 25,000 mile mark. Not nearly as critical as the first miles but, Breaking in nonetheless.Yeah maybe a diesel engine, but definatly not a gas engine. If its not broken in w/in the first couple hundred miles its all the better its gonna get. If you ever compression tested a brand new motor you'll know you have the best compression #'s right off the bat and w/in the first few hundred miles before the cyl walls glaze, after that if the rings didn't seat it's not gonna get no better.
But everyone will have the theories on how they wanna break in their motors but im set on my ways of running them hard right away and it hasn't ever done me wrong. IMO i think think 500-1000 miles break in is a waste of time and all its doing is preventing rings and bearings to seat and set in before its to late. Like i said before we've broken in numerous cars ON THE DYNO that still run today and made 400, 500+ hp w/in the first 50 miles of start up.
