So is this an easy project with patience, or easily screwed up?

Aslo, with 3/16 will I need to run a center brace with a 60" wide windsheild?

We put 3/16" in Matts car and it doesn't need a brace. I put the same stuff in mine and it doesn't appear to need a brace either, but we'll see once it's at speed.

As for making the bends, all we did was screw the piece to the frame and it took on the shape needed automatically. You can kinda see the shape through the dirt in this pic.

Thanks Dave. Didnt carck or nothing when you pre-drilled the holes?

I'll let dave tell his story about whether it cracked or not....

To make it bend easier (and minimize your odds at cracking) I still stand by my idea of warming (not melting) the lexan as you screw it in. To minimize the odds of cracking when drilling, I'd recommend applying duct tape to BOTH sides of the lexan before drilling AND using a lubicant (WD-40) when drilling through. Maybe I'm overcautious, but thats the method I've used and seen others use when working with Acylic/Lexan/etc...

Just get good lexan, don't get the crap from Menards, etc. The Menard crap cracked as I was trying to cut it, and cracked again as I was trying to screw it onto the frame. 😛

I got good polycarb from Custom Plastics in North Fargo, we just pre-drilled the holes and screwed it down.

what did that run for price. The stuff I'm looking at in jegs will run me about 180 per window. 36x60

Plus I'm sure you or Matt would be more than willing to help. 🙂 Actually I could have Matt's brother help. Offer is on the table for help though.

Is lexan really a choice for DD?? I would think it would discolour in sun and the streaks from rocks etc... just wondering

Just measure what you need and call Custom Plastics for the price. It wasn't that bad really. Price depends on the quality of poly you want. You can by scratch resistant stuff, but it's double of regular poly.

                      Good luck!

I might be able to source some poly as well...I can find out if you want.

For good polycarbonate, 3/16" front and 1/8" for the sides it cost me ~$250 for the front windshield and the two doors.

How easy was it to cut to shape and what tools did you use?

250 for the doors and windows aint bad. So probly around 350 or so including the rear window too.

BTW, the car isnt gonna be much of a DD any more. Just barely legal enough to take the ocasional drive.

You make a template out of card board or poster board and they cut it all for you. 🙂
